FRIDAY, OCTOBERÂ 18, 2019
6 to 8 pm
PRIVATE HOMEÂ
Columbus Circle
Exact location TBA
Â
Under the Volcano salutes crusading Mexican journalist MARCELA TURATI, whose commitment to bringing tough stories to light exemplifies the core mission of our program: Â to identify and encourage the next generation of journalists and writers on both sides of the border. In the era of fake news and unreliable narrators, words matter more than ever. Â
Â
Guests at this intimate gathering will have the chance to meet TURATI, fresh from receiving the prestigious Cabot Prize at Columbia in recognition of her courageous role on her country’s journalistic frontlines, and to greet Mexico’s new official faces in New York as they take up their duties and get to know our city.
Â
Rather than an evening of formal presentations, we’ve planned a lively cocktail with brief takes on one of the central questions of our time—in the deluge of news where everything seems equally urgent, which stories matter and who tells them?
Â
Under the Volcano founder and director MAGDA BOGIN will host and chef BARBARA SIBLEY will curate the hors d’oeuvres in an unsurpassed location near Columbus Circle. Â
Â
We look forward to bringing you in on the conversation!
